The Mural was designed
by Christine to introduce students to the landscape, flora and
fauna of Australia and to create an illusion of space in our restricted
site. Original watercolour plans, begun in February 1999, are displayed
in the school library.
It depicts a variety of terrain; temperate, desert, salt lake, scrub, wetlands,
escarpments and rainforest. Approximately 65 animals, birds, reptiles and insects
are represented. The black granite boulders in front of the mural were generously
supplied and carved by sculptor Silvio Apponyi.
The project was made possible through the continuous support and encouragement
of the staff, students and school community and the generosity of numerous
sponsors.
The mural was opened by the Hon. Dr. Michael Armitage, Member for the State
Seat of Adelaide, Minister for Government Enterprise and Minister for Information
Economy on October 20, 2002.
